SOCIETY – EDUCATION.CAMAB OPENS ITS DOORS.
mai 5, 2026This Tuesday, May 5, 2026, is a historic date in the history of the Cameroonian Association for Blind Women (CAMAB). It marks the solemn and official opening of this young association working for inclusive education, training, employment, health, and human rights… And, as its name does not indicate, also for gender equality.
At the foundation: a will, that of Évelyne ANGONWI, initiator of the introduction of tactile ballots in Cameroon; a project, that of social inclusion; an ambition, to bring together all possible positive energies to support visually impaired women.

A model for institutional partners: the Yaoundé VII City Council, which is providing a space of about 300 m². Major stakeholders in Cameroon’s disability sector were present: Sight Savers, CBM, Promhandicam, and many others, widely represented. Also in attendance were numerous OPD leaders, whether or not members of the Inclusive Society for Persons with Disabilities Platform, and a large audience, including the promoter’s religious congregation and traditional authority represented by the Chief of the Nkol Afeme neighborhood.
The ceremony was marked by moving testimonies from trainers, learners, the Head of the Yaoundé VII Social Center, and leaders of disabled persons’ organizations of all types. Dreams were expressed, requests made, and hands extended. Initial advocacy efforts were launched on political inclusion, ahead of the 2027 elections.

Finally, in keeping with Bantu tradition which holds that when people gather for several hours, they should share a meal, food was served to the attendees.
These were the highlights of the ceremony.
